David Kozamchak is an Associate Professor of Music at the University of Northwestern - St. Paul where he has served as the conductor of the UNW Orchestra and Coordinator of String Studies since 2003. In addition to conducting the UNW Orchestra, he teaches violin, coaches chamber ensembles, coordinates the string area, and serves as music director and conductor for music theatre productions. He also maintains a private violin and viola studio through Northwestern’s Academy of Music.

Kozamchak earned his Master of Music degree in Orchestral Conducting from the University of Missouri-Columbia and his Bachelor of Music degree in Music Education from Texas Tech University. He studied conducting with Edward Dolbashian at the University of Missouri-Columbia and also with Michael Jinbo at the Pierre Monteux School.

Maestro Kozamchak recently served as guest conductor of the Orquesta Sinfónica Municipal de Puente Alto in Santiago, Chile in 2015. Under his direction, the UNW Orchestra released its first CD entitled Orchestral Showcase in the spring of 2011.

In February of 2009, the UNW Orchestra was invited to perform at the Minnesota Music Educators Association Midwinter In-Service Clinic as a featured performing ensemble. Kozamchak made his international conducting debut in May of 2007 when he conducted the UNW Orchestra in Padua, Italy as part of the XVII International Music Meeting as well as in performance at Haydn Hall in Vienna.

In the fall of 2006, Kozamchak served as guest conductor for the Saint Paul Civic Symphony. Before moving to Minnesota, he served as the assistant conductor for the Columbia (Missouri) Civic Orchestra during the 2002-03 season. He was a member of the Lubbock Symphony Orchestra and numerous other orchestras in the West Texas and New Mexico area.

For six years, he was the orchestra director at Trinity Church in Lubbock and a sought-after music director and conductor for musicals. As a chamber musician, he was the founder, manager, and first violinist of Opus IV String Quartet. More recently, he has become increasingly more in demand as a guest conductor, clinician, and adjudicator for school music festivals throughout Minnesota.

Professional organization memberships include the College Orchestra Directors Association (CODA), American String Teachers Association (ASTA) and the Minnesota String and Orchestra Teachers Association (MNSOTA).
